Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince Film Review

To say that the Harry Potter films are really well loved films would be a huge understatement as even now many years after the film have ended people are still talking about them. With the film that i'm going to be talking to you all today perhaps being the ne that alot of people agree isn't that good as while the film is very much the calm before the storm it's also more of a teen drama film and alot less like a Harry Potter film and so then join me as I review the film that feels more like a teen drama show on The CW then a big budgeted action film with the film in question being called simply just "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Harry stumbles across a potions book that holds secrets he and Dumbledore begin exploring Voldemorts past and try to discover how to kill him in the present. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with it being made crystal clear that this films plot is easily the weakest of the films plots as the plot of this film is really weak so much so that it is hard to work out just what the main plot of the film is even meant to be alot of the time as the film seems to more focused on the teen drama aspect of it then it is in telling us a genuinely good story that being said tho there is one good aspect to the films plot that bein the plot with Draco as he has to come to terms with the fact that the Dark Lord has chosen him to be the one to kill Dumbledore and to get other Death Eaters into Hogwarts which is genuinely interesting as we get to see that even tho Draco puts up this tough exterior that deep down he is scared something which we do get to see when he has Dumbledore at wand point near the end of the film we see his hand shaking and yet the film barely focuses on this plot with it spending alot more time on Harry trying to get Professor Slughorn to give up a certain memory which is fine but when compared to the Draco plot line that one with Harry comes across as being more weaker then what it already is in the first place with this films plot being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter , Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. Also starring in this film is Sir Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore , Dame Maggie Smith as Minerva McGonagall , Alan Rickman as Severus Snape , Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn , Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid , Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick , Gemma Jones as Poppy Pomfrey , David Bradley as Argus Filch , David Thewlis as Remus Lupin , Natalia Tena as Nymphadora Tonks , Mark Williams as Arthur Weasley , Dame Julie Walters as Molly Weasley , James Phelps as Fred Weasley , Oliver Phelps as George Weasley , Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange , Timothy Spall as Peter Pettigrew , Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley , Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom , Anna Shaffer as Romilda Vane , Alfred Enoch as Dean Thomas , Devon Murray as Seamus Finnigan , Georgina Leonidas as Katie Bell , Jessie Cave as Lavender Brown , Freddie Stroma as Cormac McLaggen , Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood , Katie Leung as Cho Chang , Robert Knox as Marcus Belby , Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy , Jamie Waylett as Vincent Crabbe , Josh Herdman as Gregory Goyle , Scarlett Byrne as Pansy Parkinson , Amber Evans as Flora Carrow , Ruby Evans as Hestia Carrow , Louis Cordice as Blaise Zabini and Helen McCrory as Narcissa Malfoy.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty person ally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances which is something that is to be expected at this point in time as alot of this films actors have been with this franchise since the very beginning or close to the very beginning and have therefor been playing there respective characters for a very long time and really do know how there character would react in any given situation and those that are new to the franchise even those that appeared in the last film do hold there own when it comes to acting against the series mainstays as they are just a bunch of a really good actors in their own right with this being something that the Harry Potter films have always prided themselves on as they've always managed to to get some really good British actors in there films with this film being of no exception to that rule as all of the films characters being perfectly well cast and while it is of course far to early to tell if the Harry Potter TV show has matched the films in terms of quality acting what can be said is that the shows does have a huge hill to climb if they want to top the acting that's in this film with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as thy are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Moving Picture Company , Double Negative , Rising Sun Pictures , Framestore and Luma Pictures. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the fact that this film having some really good looking CGI in it isn't something that's all that surprising as all of the Harry Potter film including he Fantastic beasts films for that matter have always had some really good CGI in them so much so that it was hard to pick out just example of just how good the CGI in this film is as what makes the effects in this film as good as they are is the fact that alot of the time they are blended in with practical effects really well which is something that does hide the fact that they are using VFX and while it would have been very easy for the makers of this film just to do everything in a computer it's the fact that they don't do that and that they have practical sets that help to sell you on the VFX in the film and while yes some scenes like for example the attack on the bridge at the start of the film was always going to be CGI as you can't do something like that practically it's the fact that they actually filmed there and the fact that they have the extra reacting in ways that feel natural that help to sell you on the effect and while yes some of this films effects haven't aged all that well like Dumbledore's fire scene near the end of the film for example which even that still looks really good with them adding in the reflections for the fire in the cave's water you were always going to get some bad looking effects just due to when this film was being made as the effects world does move really quickly.

This film really does feel alot more like a teen drama alot of the time then it does an actual Harry Potter film. With the film spending a shockingly high amount of time just on the characters love lives and seeing them get in and out of situations which is fine for a few minuets and heck even the other Harry Potter do put alot of focus on the characters personal lives as well but here it felt like that they were going over board with it all so much so that the film does start to feel like a teen drama we the audience don't want to know that Ron is having trouble getting rid of a clingy girlfriend as that adds nothing to the plot of the film neither does Hermione suddenly realizing that she might have feelings for Ron and Ginny and Harry kissing those are things that are pointless to include in the film and yet for one reason or another the makers of this film thought it was wise to have them in the film when all they do is take screen time away from other more important things like the films plot and making sure that we get to like the films new characters and look fair enough this film is meant to be the calm before the storm and so you have to show the characters truly happy before you give them the gut punch that makes them all really emotional fair enough but there could have been away to do that but also have it tie into the main plot of the film as while Ginny helping Harry hide the book does tie into the plot of the film there kiss doesn't and yet if they found away to make sure that them kissing was important to the films plot then it would have worked like for example Harry could have said that there love is a strong bond that even Voldemort would try to break only to have Ginny kiss him as her way of saying that that won't happen does that make important to the plot of this film no but is it a good way of letting us know that Voldemort is still a threat even tho he's not in the film yes.

As much as this film does get alot of hate the film is still really well written as the film does very subtly set up the fact that that Snape is actually working for Dumbledore all along. As if you pay very close attention to what he says near the beginning of the film as he says that he's managed to fool the greatest wizard out there now he does also state that Bellatrix would be foolish to deny the fact that Dumbledore is a great wizard but given what we now know about the character it's quite clearly setting up the fact that Snape is working for Dumbledore with it being really cleverly done as that scene even tho it's not a throwaway scene it's also a scene that has very little interesting things happening in it and so that little bit of dialog from him would have been very easy to miss in the first place with the film being filled to the brim with moments like that with this being done because of the fact that some amount of work was being on The Deathly Hallows two parter when this film was being worked which is something that did effect the writing of this film as it allowed them to set things up in this film and then pay them off later on in The Deathly Hallows two parter which was a really smart thing to do and heck even the fact that Tom Riddle was someone who to be frank was a charming person in his youth being something that does get further explored in The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and yet it was something that was set up in this film even with it even technically being a plot point in this film as well and it skills like this that do make for great repeat viewings of films with this films writing being of the best aspects of the films as a whole.

This film manages to do the one thing that the the films have failed to do and that's the fact that they actually make Hogwarts no longer a safe place. With this one little thing being something that alot of Harry Potter films have said that they'll do and yet they never do and yet here they actually manage to do it just by doing two very simple things the first being killing Dumbledore as he is a character that we all thought would never die and would make to the end of the story because of how good of a wizard that he is and the second of which is the fact that they have at the very least a small handful of Death Eaters essentially break into Hogwarts and do some serious damage to the place both of those things combine do tell us that the one place that we all thought would be safe as it's the one place where our heroes could never be touched by the villains is now just as dangerous as the outside world is and while of course this film doesn't fully explore that idea as they do that in the following two films it's the fact that they do it in the first place which makes all the difference as now we the audience are always on edge and are always wondering if our main characters are going to make it out alive as by killing Dumbledore it now means that other main characters can now die with this being something that does come into great effect in Deathly Hallows Part 2 it is something that would have been interesting to see happen in this film as they could have had sone of this films side characters try to take on one of the Death Eaters as a way for them to try and defend their school something which any one of this films side characters would have done.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and thirty three minuets and thirty seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for the Harry Potter films but at the same time tho this film does feel a bit on the long side of things with this being due to the fact that the film does focus alot on the teen drama aspect of the film this is despite the fact that the film does have more then enough plot there to cover that amount of running time in the first place with the film not even using it's running time all that wisely as the film doesn't take the time to fully develop it's plot with this again being due to the fact that the makers of this film thought that it was wiser to devote more screen time to the characters love lives and personal drama then in developing the plot of the film and yet if the makers of the film did develop the plot then we the audience would care all the more for there love lives as what they've been through would have been more thought out with the film not even taking the time to fully develop it's characters as none of them are given time to shine due to the fact that the makers of this film are more interested in showing us there love lives then they in further developing them as characters and while yes it very well could have been argued that the characters got there character development in the previous films and therefor don't really need it in this film it still would have been nice to give the characters some form of character development as it would have given us the audience more of a reason to care about them and given what happens in the next two films that would have been a very wise thing to do but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt tat the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the films action scenes being alot more better then what they really had any right to be as given everything that goes on in this film it would have been understandable if the films action wasn't that good and yet because of the fact that the previous films did a goo job of making us care for the films characters it does mean that the films action scenes come across as being alot more better with the best action scene in the whole entire film being the attack in the cave as we not only get to see just how powerful that Dumbledore is as a wizard but we also get to see Harry attacking several creatures using not only hiss own magic but also his fists as well with Harry almost dieing in the process with him only being saved due to Dumbledore and while the scene at the tower very easily could have been the the best action scene in the film due to how important that that scene is to the plot of the film or the attack on the bridge near the start of the film due to how impressive that that scene is the attack in the cave is just cool with it being made crystal clear that the makers of this film put alot of thought and effort into all of this films action scenes as they all look really good even the attack on the borrow a scene which you can hardly see due to it being set at night still looks good as it again hits home the point that the characters aren't really save anywhere anymore with the rest of this films action being just as good as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall when it comes to the Harry Potter films this one is quite easily the weakest one just due to the fact that for a long long time during the film not alot actually happens and yet when something does happen that's when this films gets to be entertaining and fun to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that re in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally sued in this very review from Blogger . Com , Wikipedia and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get the images from this very film that I used in this very review being the really great Google Images really simply just due to the fact that really alot of if not really all of the images that are all really from this very film with alot of them being better quality then what you'd really think of and all of the images are really of course up and really on Google Images are also really all fairly high in quality and as well as them all being really fairly freaking high in definition.
